The campground provides free Wi-Fi, a fully stocked convenience store, and a café for dining options. There are also modern laundry facilities, restrooms, and showers. For recreational activities, the KOA features a mini-golf course, a playground, and bike rentals. Additionally, there are RV sites with full hookups, tent sites, and cabin rentals, making it an ideal destination for various types of campers.

Access

Access to the Salt Lake City KOA by vehicle is convenient and straightforward, thanks to its strategic location near major highways. The campground is situated close to Interstate 15 (I-15) and Interstate 80 (I-80), making it easily accessible for travelers coming from various directions. It is just a few minutes’ drive from downtown Salt Lake City, providing quick access to urban amenities and attractions. The KOA’s entrance is well-marked and spacious, accommodating both small vehicles and larger RVs. The roads leading to the campground are well-maintained, ensuring a smooth drive for guests. Additionally, the KOA offers ample parking and wide driveways within the campground, facilitating easy maneuvering and parking for all types of vehicles.

Atmosphere

Like a typical KOA, the Salt Lake City KOA was noisy and full of families. The sites were close together with no privacy. We stayed here in June and the campground was packed.

Environment

The Salt Lake City KOA is close to downtown and there was a lot of homeless surrounding the park. There are no gates and the park is open for anyone to come and go. There is no security at the park. I highly suggest if you are leaving to explore to lock your belongings up before leaving for the day.

With that being said, my sister and I did walk to eat at night and were safe. we walked about a mile to our favorite restaurant The Red Iguana.

Surrounding Area

As I mentioned above the Campground is in the city so it is close to major freeways and to the Temple if you want to tour it. It was under construction when we visited so we missed out on that!

History enthusiasts can also explore the Utah State Capitol and the impressive Temple Square. The Square is also home to the Tabernacle, where visitors can attend concerts by the renowned Tabernacle Choir. For outdoor lovers, the Red Butte Garden and Liberty Park provide beautiful green spaces for walking, picnicking, and enjoying nature.

Art and culture aficionados will appreciate the Utah Museum of Fine Arts and the Natural History Museum of Utah. Families can visit the Hogle Zoo or the Tracy Aviary for a fun day out with animals. The city’s vibrant downtown area offers an array of shopping, dining, and entertainment options, including the City Creek Center, which features numerous shops and restaurants. Additionally, sports fans can catch a Utah Jazz basketball game at the Vivint Arena. With its mix of cultural, historical, and recreational activities, Salt Lake City has something to offer every visitor.

As you can see, the campground’s location is amazing, the environment is not so great.

Favorite Things

The best thing about this campground is it’s location and proximity to everything in the City. It was really cool to drive through the salt flats and see the Great Salt Lake.

I will caution you…if you have never been to the Great Salt Lake there are sand fleas everywhere. They are like little flies hovering over the sand. They are gross and you can’t escape them. But I traveled thousands of miles to get to the lake so I braved them and stuck my feet in the water. That was as brave as I could get!

If I could change one thing…

I would change the feeling of safety at the campground. It would feel more secure if there were some type of gate and code system in use at the park. I am not sure If I went back to SLC if I would stay here again. I loved it’s location but not the vibe.
