Amenities
This campground is one of my favorites. I love Crescent City and go there as often as possible. This campground offers cabins, tent sites, and RV sites with full hookups. There is a small camp store in the office with limited supplies. There is a very small tot play area in the middle of the park with no shade. It is in an open field. The bathrooms are not the cleanest and are dated but hot water was on demand which is wonderful. RV sites are somewhat private and are spacious. The sites are all full-hookup with fire pit and picnic table. There is a small trail behind the camping area that is short. My guess is it is less than a quarter mile long. There is a laundry area with three washers and three dryers, but they did not all work while we were there. Do note that there are full-timers living at the park.

Access
The campground is super easy to get to. It is directly off Highway 101 just north of Crecent City. There are no windy roads. The road is maintained and smooth.
The campground is right off Highway 101. There is a small bike lane on both the north and south bound sides of the freeway. However, I am not brave enough to ride my bike (even an electric bike) since it is a two-lane highway with fast moving trailers and semis. You may be braver than I am. I chose to drive to the town and use my bike on the paths there. There is a city park you can park your vehicle in and ride the bike from there.
Atmosphere
The atmosphere is peacful. You are surrounded by beautiful scenery in the park. Sites are nestled in the trees with ferns and other greenery. All the sites seemd to be under the Redwood canopy. The sites have trees or shrubs that separate you from your neighbors. There was a noisy group of 4 rigs that were across from us that were very loud during the day with barking dogs and intoxicated adults. This ruined the peacful vibe. We were in site #57 and although it was beautiful and spacious, we were surrounded by full-timers and it made it feel less vacation-like.
Environment
This park is beautiful. It is well-maintained and cared for. The sites are all dirt, but leveling would not be an issue as they are flat. The sites feel private and are mostly shaded throughout the day. Wifi is spotty becasue of the trees and streaming is not even possible using the campgrounds wifi. It is cool year-round so campfires are perfect in the morning, afternoon, and night. You can eat s’mores all day long.
Surrounding Area
The campground is about a mile or so fromt the small town of Crescent City. Crescent City has many restaurants, a Wal-Mart, grocery stores, a marina, a wonderful bike path through town and along the water, and a small Aquarium, Ocean World (so cute).
Battery Point Lighthouse is a nice walk and it is near the breakers. The Crescent City jetty is a long and reinforced breakwater with excellent views of the harbor and the Battery Point Lighthouse islet. The latter can be reached on foot at low tide. The breaker is intersting to see becasue it is surrounded by dolosse which look like a bunch of anchors attached to the breaker (read more about it here).
Jedediah Smith State Park is a short drive from the campground and it a must-see while there. There are a ton of hiking trails and it is a beautiful drive if you don’t like to hike. I don’t tow a car and there are several pull outs throughout the park that my 32 foot class C could park. If you are in a car, you can use one of the many parking spaces at the trailheads. Just south of Crescent City is Klamath, CA (not Klamath Falls, OR). It is a beautiful drive to the Newton B Drury Scenic Parkway (this is an exit you can’t miss) to more hiking trails in the Prarie Creek Reedwood State Park. Elk is abundant in this area and if you are lucky, you will get to see some.
Trees of Mystery is a fun place to explore for children and adults alike. Here you can hike and explore teh giant trees, visit the gift shop and Native American museum, take the tram to the top of the canopy where you can see amazing ocean views on a clear day, and walk across the Redwood Canopy Trail. This is an inexpensive visit. The lot is big so parking is not usually an issue. There is RV parking on the right side of the [arking lot and across the street in an overflow lot.
Favorite Thing
I honestly could not pick one favorite thing about this campground. I love the area, the town of Crescent City, and the proximity to town and stat parks. My time here is alwasy too short.
If I could change one thing…
On my last trip here I was bummed about the people who were near us. Again, this is not the park’s fault but I do wish people would be more respectful. I also wish I would have stayed longer. Hikers especially need more time here. There is so much beauty.
