Amenities
This campground is located in the California Central Valley which is mostly agricultural. Gilroy is known for garlic and the smell was thick in the air when we visited in late June. I didn’t mind because I love garlic and the smell of it. This campground was a one-night stop on a 10-day road trip through California and up the coast of Southern Oregon. It had more amenities than was needed for a quick stop. The campground offers wi-fi, cable TV, pool and hot tub, RV necessities, propane, a recreational hall, full hook-ups including sewer, and clean but dated bathrooms.
There were several showers and the water was hot, the pressure good, and there was plenty of space to shower and get dressed.
The wi-fi was good and we were able to stream a movie.
They offer both 30 and 50-amp hookups.
Access
The RV park is easy to access with a quick drive through the town of Gilroy. The roads are multi-lane until you get close to the park then they become a single-lane. However, the lanes are wide, and maneuvering them is not an issue. I took I-5 to the 152 west to get there. Some of the 152 is a 2-lane highway through farmland.
Atmosphere
The vibe of the park is nothing special. It was quiet for the most part. There are a few full-timers there which I don’t like since it kills the vacation vibe. Again, for my stay, it was only one night and a stop on the way to the Redwoods. So it was not an issue but it is something you should be aware of.
Checking in was easy and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The park is located across from a shopping center. The park faces the back side of the shops so I didn’t notice an abundance of traffic. I arrived around 4:00 pm and left the next morning at 7:00 am. I can’t confirm or deny if there are delivery trucks during the day or not.
The weather was hot since it was summer so there were not a lot of people out of their trailers but there were people in the pool. If you are at a site near the pool, you might get some noise.
Environment
All the sites are on a concrete pad so leveling is not an issue. There is no fire put (not needed in the summer since it is hot here) or picnic tables at the site. Sites are close to each other with no barrier or foliage to separate you from your neighbor. There was not a lot of space between you and your neighbor. The park’s sites are very open.
If you like to set up camp with a lot of things, know your space is limited but doable. You can easily set out a few chairs and a fire pit and still have room.
Surrounding Area
Again, the park is surrounded by business. You are definitely in town close to everything. You could easily walk to restaurants and shops (chain stores) or ride a bike. There is a Costco about half a mile away so cheaper gas is readily available which is nice with the current price of gas (summer 2022).
Across the street is a Starbucks (inside Target) along with a plethora of other shops. There is a Ross, Target, Dollar Tree, Barnes and Noble, Kohl’s, and restaurants. Further down are plenty of other shops like Lowe’s, Home Goods, grocery stores, gas, and fast food.
Favorite Things
The best thing about this park is its convenient location near everything. Shops, gas, hardware stores, and eateries are all minutes away via a car or bike and many you can walk to. The park was easy to get in and out of for a quick overnight.
One of the main reasons I stopped over at this RV park was its location to Casa de Fruita on the 154. It’s a fun stop to eat lunch or dinner, grab a snack, and stretch. It has a restaurant, deli, ice cream shop, candy shop, dried food, fresh fruits and veggies, and other food items. There is also a picnic area and a merry-go-round for the kids and kids-at-heart.
Gilroy also has outlets if you enjoy shopping or need to grab something you forgot to pack.
If I could change one thing…
The only thing I didn’t love about this RV park was that there were a lot of full-timers living there. Some still had their Christmas lights up (in June). This may or may not bother you. It was not enough of a nuisance that would deter me from stopping by again.
