Campground: KQ Ranch

Location: Julian, CA
Amenities
This campground has all the amenities you can think of. You will find lots of recreational activities like basketball courts, tennis courts, and a mini-golf course. There is a coin-operated laundry room with a large sink and hot water. The dog park was huge and the highlight of our stay. It is stocked with doggie bags in case you forget yours. The restrooms were never dirty and the water in the showers was hot. The convenience store was fully stocked and one of the best on-site stores we have seen. They also sell Julian pies.
The Atmosphere
The park was quiet and peaceful. There are some full-timers that live there year-round but I think they were mostly employees. There were nice full-grown trees and lots of open space/fields.
Access
The road to get there is a windy mountain road. Some of the roads do not have a guardrail and the road is near a cliff. But it is a very short road and no problem maneuvering. We did this in the dark of night with no issues.
Environment
This is a membership campground part of the Colorado River Adventures. We are not members but were invited to stay. We did have to participate in a presentation of the company. The sales team was friendly and there was no pressure to purchase. We said no and they said thank you for your time. There was no negativity or haggling. The staff during our stay were helpful.
The sites are back-in and gravel.
Surrounding Area
It is a short drive to the small, mountain town of Julian. This very cute town, known for its apples, has one main road with a few scattered businesses. You can pick your own apples during the fall. There are restaurants, pie companies, and boutique clothing stores.
Favorite Things
We love the Julian Cider Mill. This charming local business sells candy, nuts, and other confections. Fresh hot cider is served on cold days. They also have other gifts and trinkets for you to remember your trip. If you are looking for great food and apple pie, you can go to the Julian Cafe. Our favorite pie is the apple pumpkin pie.
If I Could Change One Thing…
I wish this campground were not a membership site. We are not full-time RV’ers and the other sites in the organization are too far for us to go on the weekends and too hot for us in the summertime. We really love this campground and the town of Julian and we highly recommend checking it out.
