You know the old saying, “It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.” There are a million things that can go wrong while camping and somehow we are supposed to be prepared for all of them. But how with such limited space in the rig?
We all want to have fun, explore, and be adventurous in the great outdoors. That is why we camp. But we also want to be prepared. So it doesn’t matter if you enjoy being outside in a tent, a travel trailer, an RV, or just a day-use kind of person. You should always be prepared.

What should you put in your first aid kit?
Of course, you can buy premade kits at various price points. There are cheaper kits for around $20 and mid-priced kits for around $40. These are great options for a quick fix, but they don’t always contain the things you need. Creating your own first aid kit allows you to always have the things you and your family need.

For our first aid kit, I use a large travel toiletry bag. Mine is from Thirty-One bags, but you can find tons of options on Amazon or at a local drug store. One like this is a great option. These types of bags are great for many reasons.
- Lots of pockets for organization
- Everything located in one place
- Easy to store
- Saves space in the cabinets

Of course, there are so many more things to include in your first aid kit. However, you have to create a kit that is specific to you and your family.
Pet’s need care too
Don’t forget to pack for your pet. Some things that are in your traditional first aid kit are not just for humans. Things like gauze, Benadryl, and a multi-tool all work for your pet too. A medical book for your pet can help you better fix your pet up. But what else do you need? Here are some ideas:
- Prescription medications
- A muzzle (if in pain)
- Protective booties
- Pet pain medicine
- Collapsible bowls
Where to store your first aid kit
It is important to store the first aid kit in a place where it can be easily accessed. Make sure all people traveling with you know where the kit is located.
Most importantly
Your first aid kit may change from trip to trip depending on what you are doing and how active you will be. It is key to your happy travels to be prepared for whatever situation you will be in. The most important thing is to remain calm and keep the injured calm in emergency situations. Having the first aid essentials will help you continue to enjoy your camping experiences.
